My brief trip to Japan centered around the area of Kyoto. What a perfect time of year for color! Maples were in their prime of fall foliage and many Japanese make annual trips to see their crimson leaves. What I enjoyed immensely, was seeing Japanese monks using bamboo rakes to pile up the tremendous amounts of these “cast-offs”, but when finished, they would take a handful of them and carefully place them on the vibrant green bushes of the temple grounds.
What an eye-popping magnificent display for us westerners, who in their own land, may just laboriously want to rid our yards of leaves in preparation for winter.
