Loose Stacks, Evening

Besides he many types of hay bales, I love the “loose stacks” the best.  The color of hay appeals to me, but loose stacks vary in shape and there is the irregularity about them I like. In high elevations, hay keeps better in this way but also requires a special method for creating these stacks. If you have ever seen a strange structure made of lodgepole, these are “beaver slides”. I watched a group of ranchers using these in the Avon, Montana area, and it was a fast and fascinating process. You still see the loose stacks, but they are disappearing: in Avon, around Deerlodge, the Big Hole Valley and around Jackson, Wyoming.
