This watercolor, definitely a “landscape of the mind”, was done after a trip to Greece where we had visited the island of Patmos. On that island, John the Evangelist died in a Roman prison for preaching the Gospel. Of all the disciples, he, alone, did not die a martyr’s death. He wrote down the “revelation” that God revealed to him, which is now our Book of Revelation, while he was housed in a cave on a hill overlooking the island and water below. This painting is more of an imaginary landscape and does not accurately depict the landscape of Patmos.
