The only time I hiked up to Granite Chalet, it was a phenomenally great day weather-wise. We were told that if you got an early start, you could cross the sunny, rocky shale part of the trail while temperatures were comfortable.
We began at the trailhead at MacDonald Creek, getting up to the chalet about noon. After lunch we were ready to go exploring again. On the way, I had photographed this rider getting across the creek on horseback, leading a packhorse. It was just one of the delights of this time of year and the special place that is Glacier National Park.
