From my studio, I have a good but faraway view of the Our Lady Statue that was erected on the top of the Continental Divide in. That in itself is an adventure story and if one visits Butte Mt. you can visit the Our Lady Gift Shop as well as schedule a tour by bus that takes you up the backside of the Divide. Butte sits at about 5600’ and the 90’ high statue is at 8610’, completed in 1985. Dress warmly as the wind can be fierce and temperatures will be much lower than the valley below. It is well worth the trip as the views below are breathtaking.
On the day I decided to paint a view of it, I noticed that the Our Lady was partially enshrouded by fog and there was snow on top of the ridge as well. It seemed to have a mysterious quality that I had hoped to capture.
