This unshorn sheep was hanging out, eating grass, in front of the ancient farmhouse bed & breakfast where we stayed in Champagne, France. Its size and cumbersome shape was not an invention of my imagination, only turning its drab grayness to a more vibrant color scheme. I have returned to photos I took of this “mouton” and found inspiration for other paintings using it as the main subject.
