This painting takes nearly the same viewpoint as “Entrance to Petra”, also in this Travel section.  It seems that I am always attracted to the color variation and texture of rocks, whether in Jordan, Moab, Utah, or the rock cliffs found throughout the western United States, and especially in my neighborhood of southwest Montana. The Nabateans built this city carved from rock and established a wayside for travelers on the Silk Road in about the fourth century B.C. Inhabitants in this area go back as far as 7000 B.C.
